In 2025, we are adding peat-free products to our already diverse range. We have been working on this topic for several years and, after extensive testing, can now present very good quality in peat-free substrates. Hydrangea paniculata is available completely peat-free on request. We have also added Eucalyptus to our programme as a completely new crop – also produced peat-free.
Peat-free – of course, the topic is not simply implemented like that. It was particularly important to us that our customers and end customers will not have to deal with any complicated additional work in further cultivation. We now have gathered extensive experience and can provide you with specific answers on all areas of cultivation for the peat-free production of panicle hydrangeas. We have tried out suitable substitutes and adapted the cultivation management with regard to irrigation and fertilisation. If you want peat-free Paniculata ready-grown plants, order them from us 16 weeks before the desired delivery date. As standard, Paniculata are still potted with peat. The entire Hydrangea macrophylla range will continue to be produced in peat substrates, too. We are carrying out tests here, but do not want to compromise on quality in any way.
Eucalyptus are also brand new to the range. They are available in P-14 in a peat-free substrate and are offered under our own registered brand ‘Australian Spirit’ with a picture label. The programme includes several varieties, including ‘Gunii’, ‘Baby Blue Bouquet’ and ‘Silver Dollar’. Eucalyptus is an absolute trend plant because it can be used in a variety of ways both in the garden and as a cutting. In addition, its cultivation is an excellent match for hydrangea production. We are supplementing our range with eucalyptus, not replacing our hydrangea range. The hydrangea range still includes around 60 varieties for the home and garden, including our own brands ‘Hortensia’, ‘Colour Club’, ‘Everbloom’ and ‘You&Me’.
